I'm back with another product review as promised. 

Luster's S-Curl "No Drip" Activator Moisturizer Hair Spray

I give this product 5 stars or Afro picks if you will. It has been a God sent when it comes to my prone dry hair. I'm a going to enjoy this product for the approaching winter. An activator for moisture? I admit the promise of more curlies is what brought me to its kind but what I found instead was an alternative to water moisturizing or LOC'ing  (the process of locking moisture in to hair by using water leave in conditioner and cream in that order.) LOC'ing was taking up a good amount of my time each day because my hair would assume some degree of dryness again as the day past on. Now I'm using Luster's S-Curl for the job, It last all day long. I spray once in the morning and once again at night before going to bed. My hair feels soft and moisturized like nothing before. I don't struggle anymore to keep it in a healthy state.

Luster's says:

This moisturizer may be used daily to maintain and condition your curly hair style. It contains glycerin and vitamin B5, which together eliminate breakage and keep your curls, waves and natural hair soft, healthy and with a lasting sheen. Use daily to maintain proper moisture balance.

• Use without fear of ruining your clothes or pillow cases
• Can be used daily by the entire family
• Will not leave a greasy build-up

I agree, this product didn't even leave my satin bonnet with remanence. I receive perfect balance a dryness is a non factor!  Dryness can lead to hair breakage, split ends, and tangles, without proper moisture balance your setting your hair up for failure.

So far I'm loving Luster's S-Curl "No Drip" Activator Moisturizer Hair Spray. I'm looking forward to not wetting my hair with water these cold winter months. another lovely Pro to this particular product is I got a lot of compliments on the smell of my hair, which I liked too. The only con I have is my hands do get a little smooth and I have to wash them often because I have HIH (Hand in Hair syndrome). that's all. LOl.

Pros:

• This is a great lightweight, non greasy product that does a great job at moisturizing
• It contains glycerin and vitamin B5

The Avocado Whey: Hair recipe

Hello Bombshells, I figure since I have a few new subscribers I would go ahead a share one of my recipes or two because I promised another.

Well if you remember the Palmers DC Review you’d remember what horrible shape it left my natural hair in. I continued to deep condition in order to restore my hair. I even bought an all natural herb conditioner which did a great job softening but my hair even more frizzy but I appreciated the softness. I was so distraught I thought about cutting my hair off to start over. My hair was lifeless and dry. I was given a recipe heard on Oprah meant for dry hair.  So I tried it in a last attempt to salvage what I had. 

I mixed it up with a few hair brain ideas that had popped it to mind that I researched, and this is what I got

My hair was even better than normal. I had softness, shine, and curls to die for.

Deep Condition: Avocado Whey

Mixture: You should be able to measure the amount you need by knowing your hair. I have a TWA so I used  

·              3 Tbls  Mayonnaise

·              2 Tbls   Olive oil

·              1          Egg

·              ½      Avocado

Massage the mixture into your scalp, wrap a warm towel around your head to help penetrate your scalp or sit under a low heat dryer. Wait 20 minutes then rinse with luke warm water. ( I left mine in overnight)

Avocado and Olive oil was to restore moisture to my hair if you restore real moisture you eliminate frizz.  Restore the bounce back I needed protein. This is where the Mayonnaise and Egg come in.

Here’s my secret weapon for protein. Protein Whey. Yes the nutritional supplement shake you drink to create muscle mass can also benefit your hair. Whey, is a byproduct of cheese-making, it’s been used to strengthen hair, help it grow faster and assist in the prevention of hair loss.  I shook about 1 Tbls in my Avocado mixture. I got all my bounce back. Yay, bet you found out about something new today… unless my news has already got around, which is great!

Recipe 2

Open up your hair shaft!

·        1 Tsp Baking Soda

·        Any amount of your favorite conditioner.

Baking soda is a Base. It opens up your hair cuticle which makes this wash ideal for deep conditioning, oil rinses, and a good cleanser after long periods of not being able to wash your hair. Remember what goes up must come down. To close hair cuticle and lock in all the good things you put in, use A vinegar mix ¼ vinegar ¾ water to close cuticle bring your hair PH level back down to around 4.

What Did He Just Call Me?

Everyone knows I’m a night owl, so it’s no surprise to find me walking the grocery aisles at two o clock in the morning. This trip to the grocery store was a little different. Retrieved a small basket (normal), I got the items that I needed (normal), was called a name because of my hair (nor….. wait stop, different). I’m sure we all get mixed reactions to our natural hair but this comment floored me. I’m walking through the isles minding my own business. I hear a couple f stock men talking about some women who walked in with their scantily clad Halloween costumes. Even though I thought a comment from one of the gentlemen was inappropriate, I minded my business and continued to shop. Upon passing these gentlemen one takes the opportunity to call me a Piccaninny. I stopped in my tracks, looked him in the eye and politely gave him some rope to hang himself. I asked him “What do you mean?” He says “Your hair, we call that style Piccaninny where I’m from.” Right there I knew exactly what he was referencing and slyly trying to say. I said “I know what you’re saying to me because I’m also Caribbean and no it’s not a hair style.”

People he was saying that my hair was knotty/ nappy. If Pickaninny was a hair style it would look like this.

Hmm, really my CURLS look like that!?

Let’s get politically correct: Merriam-Webster

Pickaninny. Pickaninny (also picaninny or piccaninny) is an offensive derogatory term in English that refers to black children or a racist caricature thereof.  

This word came about 1850s to 1950s coming from the Portuguese slave traders, who probably called them pequeninhos, “little ones”. 

1920s it had become a racist slur in America for blacks.

To his defense in the Caribbean people do call their children “pickney” or picanniny doesn’t matter if the child is black or white. But when this joker said it was a hairstyle I knew his comment was of ill nature.

Now we can debate about this term Piccaninny but the fact is it has been used to refer to our children a less, not normal. Just because some don’t know any better and use it ignorantly, doesn’t make it any better than the word Nigger or acceptable.   

All I’m trying to do is be who I want to be at this phase of my life. Whether my hair is kinky, straight, or bi that’s my hair preference. I know I’m not at the stage where my hair is glorified for its growth capability but I’m still me and made the decision to wear my hair natural for my reasons. No one should have a problem with that especially my owned people.
