Product Review: Luster's S-Curl "No Drip" Activator Moisturizer Hair Spray

product image

I'm back with another product review as promised.

Luster's S-Curl "No Drip" Activator Moisturizer Hair Spray

I give this product 5 stars or Afro picks if you will. It has been a God sent when it comes to my prone dry hair. I'm a going to enjoy this product for the approaching winter. An activator for moisture? I admit the promise of more curlies is what brought me to its kind but what I found instead was an alternative to water moisturizing or LOC'ing  (the process of locking moisture in to hair by using water leave in conditioner and cream in that order.) LOC'ing was taking up a good amount of my time each day because my hair would assume some degree of dryness again as the day past on. Now I'm using Luster's S-Curl for the job, It last all day long. I spray once in the morning and once again at night before going to bed. My hair feels soft and moisturized like nothing before. I don't struggle anymore to keep it in a healthy state.

Luster's says:

This moisturizer may be used daily to maintain and condition your curly hair style. It contains glycerin and vitamin B5, which together eliminate breakage and keep your curls, waves and natural hair soft, healthy and with a lasting sheen. Use daily to maintain proper moisture balance.
  • Use without fear of ruining your clothes or pillow cases
  • Can be used daily by the entire family
  • Will not leave a greasy build-up

I agree, this product didn't even leave my satin bonnet with remanence. I receive perfect balance a dryness is a non factor!  Dryness can lead to hair breakage, split ends, and tangles, without proper moisture balance your setting your hair up for failure.

So far I'm loving Luster's S-Curl "No Drip" Activator Moisturizer Hair Spray. I'm looking forward to not wetting my hair with water these cold winter months. another lovely Pro to this particular product is I got a lot of compliments on the smell of my hair, which I liked too. The only con I have is my hands do get a little smooth and I have to wash them often because I have HIH (Hand in Hair syndrome). that's all. LOl.

Pros:
  • This is a great lightweight, non greasy product that does a great job at moisturizing
  • It contains glycerin and vitamin B5

Product Review: Alikay Naturals Shea Yogurt Hair Moisturuzer

I’ve been using this Shea Butter mixture for about a month now. I love it. Alikay Naturals Shea Yogurt Hair Moisturizer keeps my fro soft and twists fresh. It smells wonderful and has kind of a smooth, airy feel. I have done everything from moisturizing my hair, to twists, coils, and braid outs with this product. It hasn’t let me down yet. Shea Yogurt leaves my hair soft and shiny every time.

The key ingredients are Raw Shea Butter, Sweet almond oil, Wheat Germ Oil, Rice Bran Oil, Essential Oils, Rosemary, Herbal and Botanical blend.

Even better: No Petroleum, No Mineral oil, No Alcohol, No Parabens, No Sulfate, and No Silicone is included in this product.

I met Rochelle A.K.A Black Onyx at Taliah Waajid Natural Hair event. I had heard so many good things about Alikay Products especially the Shea Yogurt Hair Moisturizer that I hunted down her booth, Lol. I wanted to test it for myself before I gave it to my guest. She was so nice and even agreed to sponsor us by supplying some samples and giveaways for Ringlet Bombshells upcoming event. I’m excited for everyone who attends because I love passing on great products and seeing people achieve great hair. I definitely recommend this product. It works wonders for style, sheen, and softness.

Here is a link video on how to use this product to give you a better idea because when I tell you I made use for it with every style believe me, I have. So the video will center you.

Product Review: Palmer's Coconut Oil Formula DC Protein Pak

Ladies, NOT happy with this product. I’m a faithful deep conditioner. I was used to these products when I was relaxed but i never thought twice about the results on my natural hair. When I first applied this product I didn’t like it because it felt greasy on my ends but I decided to continue since it was already slathered over my hair. Typically, I deep condition with a shower cap for about an hour. At some point of time I felt my hair through the cap to make sure it was a little heated by my body heat. My curls felt a bit loose. I didn’t freak because in my mind deep conditioning products are good for you, not bad. OMG when I took this cap off to wash my tresses out my curl pattern looked loose. I wash everything out and freaked. I’m not the most curly hair type but when my hair is engrossed with water my curls definitely throw a parade.

I FREAKED! My hair felt so dry like a soft Brillo pad. The strands of my hair were visibly thinner. I have thick hair. I was admiring the texture only an hour ago as I washed with Mane n Tail shampoo. All I kept thinking was I’m already having a set back so soon in my Journey. I’m thinking the packet says to leave in for 10 - 20 minutes but I’ve never had a problem before leaving in longer. But then again, I probably didn’t notice and basked in the glory of straightness. What kind of product thins the strands of hair? I’m going to write an angry letter to research the ingredients in this Palmer's protein pak and if I find any kind of evidence certain ingredients catering to straightening products, they’re are going to hear from me.
Generally I deep condition all natural (Mayonnaise, eggs, honey, cinnamon, yogurt, I’ll give recipes in another post.) I picked Palmer's up at Walmart for $1.59 to review (womp womp).

I ran to Kroger supermarket at 11:30pm for some eggs. I washed again with my product ridding but moisture retaining Mane and Tail Shampoo then deep conditioned properly for an hour 45 minutes. I did get some curl definition back but nothing I’m used to. My strands still feel thinner but not as dry. In attempt to restore my hair I will deep condition twice a week. I will continue to trim more than often to combat breakage if my tresses remain this thin. Pray for me. Good thing I have a TWA because I would be totally pissed if I had more than 4 inches of damage but I’ll remain with a positive attitude.

Let’s recap my experience. Some what oily at application, Dry, visibly thinner strands afterwards, looser curl pattern - from curly to wavy, and brillo-ish type feel.
Palmer’s Protein Pak gets a thumbs down and finger up from me.

The results

What I'm used to achieving

How I fixed it after I re-deep conditioned.

Coils!

A ray of sunshine through cloudy weather, I could not achieve a flat coil set before.

Product Review: Edge Control ORS

I wasn’t in the market for any kind of gel or pomade. But submerged in hair conversation with some ladies this product came up

                Edge Control

Slicks and holds down edges while adding shine and moisture to the hair. This non-sticky, non-greasy formula provides excellent hold without hardening the hair.
  • Perfect control for your edges
  • Superior hold and shine
  • Contains no alcohol
  • Gives superior hold
  • No flaking
  • Great for relaxed & natural hair

My sides had become thin from relaxing and braiding, so I’m no stranger to slicking products to hold unruly hairs in place. Regardless of edges when you’re looking for a sleek look Edge Control is the Master of sleek. Every one of the bullets above is perfectly true!

Edge control looks like Jam but much more stable constancy. Has a pomade stiffness but never greasy.
At first application I got instant freeze to my tresses. I found it better the smooth first then apply because of the instant hold. If shaping becomes difficult mold with a little water, when product (quickly) dries it'll holds firm. I didn’t find a need to reapply throughout the day, even though it provided a soft hold instead of the rock hard crunchy hold. The cool thing is when I felt the need for firmness I would put a little cold water on and it would stiffen right up.

I love this product. I think it does an amazing job. Edge control excels above the rest with superiority. the best I have used in my entire life No more head scarf method  to get the perfect hold (Ladies you know what I'm talking about). The price is a little high for 2.25oz  I purchased mine from Walgreen for 4.99  and a friend got hers for 3.00 at a local beauty supply. Where ever you get yours from it worth every penny.

Edge control would be excellent for transitioners in maintaining new growth. The build up is minimal which is another great thing. You don't have to apply every day because it will build as any other product does. just add some water. It's great for natural hair and all textures. I plan to try it on my twist and locking for a friend’s dreads. I’ll let you know how that turns out.

I give edge control 5 golden picks, Lol

Product Review: Mane N Tail Shampoo and Conditioner

I’ve tried Mane N Tail regardless of the horse connection. Lol. For those who don't know, Mane N Tail is an oldie but goody. Originally made for the hair of a horse’s tail, Mane n tail has proven to be beneficial for humans as well.
Be warned that it does include Sodium Lauryl Sulfate because you die hard naturals wont like that. Sulfate is a lathering agent not very good for you but is found in many soaps, shampoos, dish washer liquid, etc. Ill blog about Sulfate later but for now I risk myself for you bombshells who live on the edge, Lol.

Due to my terrible dryness problem I refer to my hair as a tumble weed some days. If it was my choice I would only wash my hair once a month, co washing in its place. I’ve been in search of a good shampoo that doesn't dry out my hair. I came across Mane N Tail after hearing about its softness, shine, and growth, potential.

The shampoo is good just don’t use too much. It'll actually leave some moisture in your hair. I loved this because it didn’t have my hair squeaky like the others. I could tell my hair was clean. Now the conditioner is my favorite because it's so light I also use it as a leave in. After a wash it feels like you have lotion in your hair, a good thing.  My hair is soft and manageable, which says a lot.

I waited after my initial wash and condition to see how my hair reacted without any further product introduced. My hair stayed moist and manageable a lot longer than I'm used to. In fact it didn't start to dry out until I put in other products attempting to seal this amazing moisture. (still working on a sealant)

I will continue to use Mane N Tail because I feel like I can wash more often after trying all these products for you guys. I did get some shine, a lot of moister, and we'll see about growth. I'll re post in about two months to say if the benefits have stayed the same, decreased, or increased.
